Why you should try intuitive eating & how to get started

Intuitive eating is a way of eating that relies on your body's hunger and fullness signals to guide your food choices.

To get started with intuitive eating, try to tune in to your body's signals and eat when you're hungry and stop when you're full. I know this can seem abstract at first but the more you tune-in the easier it becomes.

It's also important to give yourself permission to eat all foods without guilt or shame. Focus on nourishing your body and enjoying the eating experience.

Intuitive eating can have many benefits, including improved relationship with food, increased body acceptance, and better overall physical and mental health. It can also lead to decreased risk of disordered eating behaviors and greater enjoyment of food.

5 tips for starting intuitive eating

  1. Reject the diet mentality: Stop focusing on strict food rules and embrace a more flexible, intuitive approach to eating.

  2. Honor your hunger: Listen to your body's signals for hunger and nourish it with food when you feel physically hungry.

  3. Respect your fullness (prob the thing I coach on the most): Pay attention to when you feel satisfied and stop eating when you are no longer hungry.

  4. Discover the satisfaction factor: Find joy in the foods you eat by savoring flavors and textures, and choosing foods that you truly enjoy.

  5. Cope with emotions without food (the 2nd most often thing I coach on): Develop coping mechanisms that do not involve food, such as practicing self-care, getting enough sleep or engaging in stress-reducing activities like exercise, meditation or spending time with loved ones.
